Unless you really sand ultra fine (400+) or burnish the surface, I can't see having adhesion problems. I also don't see over-sanding either. You can get the finish glass smooth at 150 grit so why would you want to spend the effort by going further, unless you are sanding endgrain to reduce stain darkening.

The random orbital sander, however, is a sanding machine that can oscillate in addition to spinning. This versatile movement eliminates all visible scratches and keeps the sanding pattern more random. Our Top Pick
Mar 07, 2020· To increase speed and accuracy at the machine, I devised an inexpensive and easy-to-build fixture for the job. It consists of two 3⁄4″-thick “fence blocks” attached to a 3⁄4″-thick base that registers to the sander table via a runner fitted in the table slot.

Nov 05, 2020· I’ll use a hand plane on machine marks first. Then move to scraping. This can be an awkward tactic though because hand planes can tear out reversing grain. If you don’t have planes or just want to scrape, just go from the machine to scraping would be my recommendation. It can substitute for sanding to some extent.
